Q– Why is lady justice a lady and not a man?

A-Justice is symbolized by a woman because she is based on two ancient goddesses of justice. In Greek and Roman mythology, justice was represented by female dieties. As such, it is represented by a woman today.

Q– what does different symbols in lady justice signify?

Blindfolded– signifies impartiality and objectivity of law and that it does not let external factors like politics, wealth or fame influence its decisions.

Balance in left hand– represents fairness. Goddess will measure what everyone deserves and how much. (Weighing of evidences).

Snake beneath the foot– means that Evil is trampled under her feet until the day that never comes out. Snake represents evil.

Sword– symbolises enforcement and respect. A double edged blade signifies that justice can rule against either of the parties once the evidence has been perused.

Tabard and arm covers– signifies declaration of war

Book– represents the constitution or book of law/ ground rules.
